How the Game Works
2024
Materials: Metallic lamé fabrics, 3D printed PLA, laser cut acrylic
Get ready for a Gaaaaame Changer... Couture, that is! Inspired by the game show Game Changer, this outfit pays homage to the colorful set and eccentric details of the incredible TV show hosted by Sam Reich on Dropout. At a dark time in my life, this show brought immense joy and laughter, both through the on-camera talents and the work of the extraordinary Dropout Art Department. I instantly fell in love with the set of Game Changer and wanted to create a high-fashion, Disco Elton John take on this wild and ever-changing show.
The sculptural top takes inspiration from the contestant and host podiums, which features a rainbow arch of varying colors. The pattern was hand-drafted and built using metallic lamé fabrics, and features a hidden interior corset. The oversized pants feature the iconic Game Changer loop-de-loop graphic, a swirling icon seen in the background of every episode. The pant loop patterns were designed in Illustrator and then printed and meticulously sewn together with metallic lamé fabric interfaced within an inch of its life. The golden shrug features a hidden loop-de-loop stitched detail that runs down the center back, meaning you always have a loop on hand for, you know, immunity.
The double-zero sunglasses are inspired by the podium scoreboards that keep a running tally every show of each contestant's wins or losses. Designed in Illustrator, these glasses were laser cut out of acrylic and then assembled together using repurposed glasses hardware.
The buzzer ring is inspired by the renowned buzzer that shows up throughout the run of the show. Modeled entirely in Fusion360, each element was 3D printed and assembled with electronics (harvested from some tap lights) that are inserted into the ring base, allowing it to glow
This outfit was featured in the 10th Anniversary Her Universe Fashion Show at San Diego Comic Con in 2024.
